
School of Medicine Research Core
Research Core
The Research Department in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Riverside provides faculty, staff, and students with a variety of support, including management of and access to instrumentation cores and other equipment, clinical research coordination, writer/editor, and biostatistician. The Core is open to all faculty and researchers from UCR and outside institutions to conduct research with otherwise inaccessible equipment.

Histology Core
The Histology Core is located on the ground floor of the School of Medicine Research Building. Available instruments in this core include:
- Leica CM1950 Cryostat
- Leica RM2235 Rotary Microtome
- Shandon Excelsior ES – Tissue Processor
- Tissue Tek Embedding Console
- Innova 4000 Incubator Shaker

The Multiphoton Core is located in the Psychology Building. Instruments available within the core are:

Cell Sorter and Flow Cytometry Core
The Cell Sorter and Flow Cytometry Core is located in the School of Medicine Research Building. Instruments available within the core are:
- MoFlo Astrios EQ Cell Sorter
- NovoCyte Quanteon Flow Cytometer Systems 4 Lasers

Cell and Gene Expression Analysis Core
The Cell and Gene Expression Analysis Core is located in the Research Building. Instruments available within the core are:
- Agilent Seahorse XF Pro analyzer
- Visium CytAssist
- 10X Genomics Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression

Nanostring Core
The Nanostring Core is located in the School of Medicine Research Building. Instruments available within the core are:
- nCounter SPRINT Profiler
- GeoMX Digital Spatial Profiler - Nanostring

For Visitors and Research Core Users:
Building Access available 8 am-5 pm (Monday-Friday) • Front Desk available 8 am-2 pm (Monday-Friday)

The primary functions and services of Research Operations include:
- Overseeing the general facilities operations and providing a main point of contact with Physical Plant and construction project personnel.
- Space utilization, training, and safety of the research labs.
- Ensuring EH&S compliance.
- Assisting in developing, maintaining and implementing procedures for the BSL2 and BSL3 labs. This includes the procurement of experimental equipment and repair services.
- Oversight to the shipping and receiving operations for the school, including mail services and courier delivery services.
