Screening for Toxic Stress Response and Buffering Factors: A Case-Based, Trauma-Informed Approach to Health Equity

Implementing this case-based curriculum in trauma-informed patient care helped increase opportunities for equitable health in patient encounters by providing students with the skills to screen for toxic stress, buffering, and brief in-clinic resiliency-fostering tools. Such skills will become even more impactful as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Resection of an Inguinal Canal Fibroid with Concurrent Endometriosis in a Patient Status Post Hysterectomy

Round ligament masses are rare and can often be mistaken for inguinal hernias or lymph nodes. Endometriosis often occurs concurrently with fibroids; however, it is rarely found within the inguinal canal. With both pathologies, preoperative diagnosis can be challenging; therefore, a thorough pelvic and abdominal survey for extrapelvic endometriosis and abnormal structures is critical during laparoscopy.

Rates of Primary Ovarian Insufficiency and Surgical Menopause in Patients With Endometriosis

Rates of POI and SM are increasing among patients with endometriosis, likely in part in response to increased diagnosis and earlier management of endometriosis. With increases in oophorectomy and hysterectomy at younger ages, adequate counseling on fertility preservation and the risks of premature menopause is essential. Further studies are required to delineate optimal candidates for fertility preservation and guide the management of hormone replacement therapy for patients with premature menopause while minimizing endometriosis recurrence
